what did I do this week?
This past week was a stressful one, primarily because I had my first mid-term since returning back to school. In the course of a week, I had to turn in my mid-term participation notes, my module 6 participation notes, a group assignment, complete a midterm, complete an assignment post-mid term and follow-up on my group assignment coding project. By Sunday morning, my brain resembled a blob fish out of water.
what worked?
If I can help it, by far, starting early was the best technique in getting everything done. I also really appreciated my professor requiring us to do a midterm participation notes activity which meant reviewing the first six modules in my fundamentals course to prepare me for the exam. It was due the Sunday before my exam (later that Thursday) which helped me to take the time I needed each day to study concepts and articles from all six modules.
My group assignment worked well primarily because we communicated early, created a document where all members could work on asynchronously and made a plan to turn in work early.
what didn’t work?
Sitting at my dining room table for two hours to complete the midterm. Because this course is asynchronous, we had the option to complete our midterms from home (or anywhere else where we would not be disturbed). It required is to use the Lockdown Browser which requires students to record their screen, themselves, scan their area, provide an ID, and ensure that we’re not cheating on our exams. For me this meant sitting at my barstool height chair for two hours to complete the test. I’m short, my legs are short and I was so immersed in the exam, that I neglected to stand up and stretch even for a few seconds to make sure blood was circulating properly down and up my legs. The result? Numbness and pain post test. Luckily, the discomfort went away after a few hours. Lesson learned: always stretch your legs to ensure safe and healthy test taking!
what can I do to improve or will try to improve?
For now, keeping up with my assignments every day will be the most impactful way to improve my study regimen. But I am looking forward to spring break next week to give my brain a much needed break.
